Meet Phoebe Richmond, the intuitive and caring dreamer behind Tarangau Retreat and Immersion Safaris, where nature, wellness, and thoughtful design come together to create spaces that inspire reflection, healing, and adventure.
The Friendly introduction: down-to-earth, witty, and deeply caring, Phoebe has a knack for bringing people together with her holistic health insights and warm, intuitive nature. Whether sharing stories in the kitchen or cultivating connections through her retreats, Phoebe’s work reflects her passion for people and the planet.
The inspiration: Immersion Safaris was born from a desire to share the beauty and wilderness of East Africa with a wider community—particularly solo female travellers with adventurous hearts but cautious minds. At Tarangau Retreat, the inspiration came from a more personal place—transforming our family home into a sanctuary where guests can pause, reset, and feel nurtured by nature. Kilifi is a quiet coastal town situated on the Kenyan coast away from the hustle and bustle - the perfect place to come if you were planning to write a book!
The meaning: In today’s world, chronic stress and fatigue have become all too common, driven by a busy culture that separates us from ourselves and the natural world. We believe all humans benefit from the exhilaration and contentment of time spent in wide-open spaces and untouched landscapes. By embracing biophilic design and organic, zero-kilometer produce, we create nourishing experiences that ground and restore. Our itineraries blend big adventures with soft landings, helping guests reconnect with themselves and return home with clarity and an open heart.
The dream: Our dream is to help travelers find their true north star through transformative journeys. By stepping away from the routines and obligations of daily life, we create space for reflection and perspective.
The motto: Starting the farm has really created a deeper meaning and context to the saying 'you reap what you sow'. It is a visual representation that every action whether positive or negative has a consequence or reward - if you ignore something you know is out of alignment it will no doubt start to falter, likewise if you pour your energy and dedication into something - come hell or high water, it will no doubt flourish. A metaphor I’m sure can be applied to all aspects of life.
The promise of Slowness: Slowness starts the moment you step foot on the Tarangau grounds, our most common feedback for the space is that people feel their shoulders loosen the moment they walk through the door. The property is enveloped by ancient neem trees which hold significance in a number of ancient cultures as a very healing medicinal plant (the bark, leaves and sap all hold different benefits).
